What's in Chili Powder?


Here is a breakdown of basic Chili Powder ingredients. These Can vary depending on the desired area that you come from or are trying to create. But this should give you a basic idea of the increments of what is included. Alot of Hot Stuff Basically!!

1 Part dried ground cayenne*
1 Part dried pasilla chile*
5 Pt dried red NM chiles
2 Parts garlic powder -- Watkins
1 1/2 Parts ground cumin -- Watkins
1 1/2 Parts ground oregano


Mexican Chilli Powder

The Mexican chilli powders combine spices such as dried grounded chilli, cumin, garlic, and oregano. This spice is used included in Mexican cuisine.

Indian Chilli Powder

South Asian countries such as India is made chilli powder by drying and grounding the red chilli to give highly pungent red powder. The pungency in the chilli powder varies according to the chilli used. Generally in India, small amount of oil is added to the chilli powder. This will help the chilli powder to hold onto its red color which will not discolor. The mixture will also help preserve the chilli powder and keep its it's taste over time.
